In the 2017 elections, the BJP put up an impressive show and won 24 seats, while its allies in the NDA- National People’s Party and Lok Janshakti Party won 4 and 3 seats respectively. With the 3 independents backing the NDA, the strength of the alliance in the house is 36.
The Congress was the second largest party with 17 MLAs. The Naga People’s Front won 4 seats, while the independents won 3 and Trinamool Congress, 1.
